Why? Because too much back and forth movement of the operating system from the page file and the RAM will just slow down performance aside from the fact that the speed of the read/write on the hard drive is slower than RAM. Furthermore, constant adding and removing of info on the page files can cause files to be fragmented, adding up to the slow speed. But anyway...Adjusting the default settings is possible to make it run even more smoothly. Windows sets the paging file size to 1.5 times the actual physical RAM. By increasing this amount you can avoid the common virtual memory error messages and freezes.
