Today’s Email clients, both desktop and web, have some highly effective spam filters, which allow you to avoid spam emails to reach your inbox. But nothing is perfect, and so are these spam filters.

Howsoever smart these spam filters are, you will surely be getting a few spam emails passing through them and reaching to your inbox. And some of them have an “Unsubscribe” link at the bottom of the page, just trying to look like  a genuine email respecting your privacy.

It is often tempting to click on that “Unsubscribe” button thinking that this will help you avoiding spam emails.

avoid email spamsBut, you may be mistaken. There are lots of chances that by this simple click, you will be telling the spammers a lot of things about you, which are ideal for the spammer know to continue spamming you.

For instance, it tells the spammer that…

  1. This is a genuine email address and somebody is actually reading the emails sent to this address.
  2. The person is having ample time to read spam emails and even go to the last to click that “Unsubscribe button”
  3. The spam filter of this person is not working correctly.

These are ideal situation for the spammer. They collect all such “Unsubscribe” request and start spamming them even more.

So, if you want to avoid spam emails sent by that spammer in future, just report it to your email client as “Spam” and rest in peace.
