SCANDISK is a great but often overlooked utility in Windows XP, which checks and repairs file systems, bad clusters and wrong file sizes on your hard drive. If you have some problems in your hardware and hardware, then they have the potential of slowing down your Windows XP. If you want to speed up XP and make XP run faster, then it is good practice to scan your hard disk with ScanDisk.
How to fix system errors and make windows run faster

There are 3 simple steps.
- Click on Start > Run.
- Type chkdsk /f C: and press OK.
- If you have more than one Hard Disk, or multiple partitions on your hard drive, then repeat the process for other partitions by just replacing the drive letter.
That is all. You might not experience the improvement in certain cases, but in some cases, it will make Windows XP faster.

chkdsk can be used to check for and repair disk errors. But this is done to avoid possible data corruption, not to improve performance. Non-technical users will be better served by the GUI version under disk properties – tools. If you are a technical user you are already familiar with chkdsk.
