How to block e mail spam in outlook

WWW is beautiful, its nice, its useful….

But it is ugly also.

There are many facets of its ugly face and SPAM is one of them. The most common type of spam is e mail spam. It is true that spammers target emails easily, but at the same time it is also true that most of the spam spreads only due to our lack of knowledge and negligence.

Here is a tip, which can effectively reduce your exposure to email spamming. But before that, let us know that the first step towards spamming is to collect valid, and genuine email addresses, which are currently under use by the real people.

How to block e mail spam

Many email messages contain pictures embedded within the message itself. Out of them, some are transmitted along with the messages. But sometimes only the link to the picture is actually sent via the email and when the email is opened, at that time the link connects to the server where the picture is actually hosted and then sends the picture.

So what is the difference ?

There is a big difference in two cases.

In the second case, when you open the email, the sending server comes to know that the email has been opened by somebody, while in the first case server does’t get such intimation. Now the interesting part… In the second case, the server comes to know that the since the email has been opened, this means that the recipient email address is a genuine one and hence can be spammed.

So, what is the remedy.

It is simple. Just explore through your email client program and look for the option, which blocks automatic downloading of pictures and images. Activate it, and now before showing any image, the email client software will ask your permission. If you are satisfied that the message is not a spam, grant the permission, otherwise not so as to block the unwanted e mail spam.

Simple.

Renaming multiple files in Windows

Last time, when I transferred photos of the birthday party of my daughter from my digital camera to the PC, they were stored with a series of some unrecognizable names like DSCZ123 and so on. It was a pain to rename them one by one because there were about 85 of them.

It triggered me to search for an easier method, and lo… there was it.

Just select multiple files to whom you want to rename, right click the mouse and select Rename. In the Dialog box, type any name say abcde and click OK, then all the selected file will be renamed like abcde(1), abcde(2), abcde(3) and so on.

That’s what exactly I wanted. Now those photos are named as Birthday (1)…….to Birthday (85).

Yeah…..may the life would also have been that simple.

Bonus Tip: If you want that the names should start from a fixed number n, say Birthday(12), Birthday(13) and so on, you have to write Birthday (12) in place of only Birthday in the rename files dialog box.

Fuser | Manage email and social networking accounts at one place

One of the striking feature of today’s web life is the rapid spread of social networking. Tens of new social networking websites pop up everyday, where you can share your views, information, photos, files and everything else with others. One reason of their rapid spread is that they are user driven. Content is not created by the website owners, but it is created by the users. These websites provide a platform to users for sharing their content. What does the users get in return ? They get the exposure, they get the visitors to their websites and blogs. This is a win-win situation for both the social networking website as well as the users.

Another feature of today’s web world is the increasing use of email accounts for different purposes. An email is no more a simple email account. Now it is like a passport, a gateway, a method to establish your identity on the web (refer the versatility of a Google Account). And this very fact has prompted people to carry multiple email accounts.

But all these facilities and features come at a cost. Cost in terms of pressure on memory to remember multiple username and passwords, cost in term of hopping from one website to another.

So what is the solution…?

Question is answered partly by Fuser.

Fuser is a place, where you can fuse all your email accounts as well as social networking accounts and check out the developments. Instead of hopping from one website to the other you just check in at Fuser, and you can access all your accounts here itself.

Simple, but a useful tool on the web.
